星野洞（南大東島）
サンゴ礁が隆起してできた南大東島には、120カ所以上の鍾乳洞があると言われています。中でも最大級の「星野洞」は、約1000坪もの洞窟に美しい鍾乳石がひしめく幻想的な空間。風化していない、真っ白な鍾乳石が多い、貴重な鍾乳洞です。もろく壊れやすい細長い鍾乳石「ソーダストロー」は長いもので1.7m以上もあり、東洋一の長さとも言われています。
It is said that there are more than 120 limestone caves on Minamidaito island, which is formed by the raising of coral atolls. Hoshino-cave, the biggest cave on the island, is a fantastic space filled with beautiful stalactites in the area of 3300 sqm. It is a precious limestone cave with many white stalactites that have not been weathered. The fragile elongated stalactite “soda straw” is 1.7 m or more in length, and is said to be the longest in the Orient.
