日秀洞（金武町）
金峯山観音寺の境内には「日秀洞（にっしゅうどう）」と呼ばれる鍾乳洞があり、「金武権現」と「水天」が祀られています。その昔、鍾乳洞に住み着いた大蛇を真言宗の僧侶「日秀上人（にっしゅうしょうにん）」が退治したという伝説が残る、神聖な洞窟です。
※鍾乳洞は現在も成長を続けており、奥の部分は自然保護のため立ち入り禁止となっています。
On the premises of Kinpozan Kannonji Temple, there is a limestone cave called “Nisshudo,” where “Kingongen” and “Suiten” are enshrined. It is a sacred cave where legend tells that Nisshu Shonin, a priest of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, exterminated a giant snake that settled in a limestone cave long ago.
*The limestone caves are still growing, and the cave’s back area is off-limits to
the public for nature conservation.
