ブーゲンビリア（沖縄県）
沖縄で暮らす人々にとってなじみ深い植物の一つ、ブーゲンビリア。花びらのように見える部分は葉が変化した苞（ほう）と呼ばれるもので、本当の花びらは苞の中央にある、白くて小さな3つの筒状のものです。赤・紫・ピンク・白など鮮やかに色づく葉は、大きさや形もバリエーション豊富。落葉後もすぐに次の葉が生えるので、年間を通して鮮やかな葉を楽しめます。
Bougainvillea is one of the plants familiar to people in Okinawa. The part that looks like a petal is a bract, a type of leaf, and the actual flower is the three, small, white parts in the center of the bract. The bracts have a wide variety of sizes and colors such as red, purple, pink, or white. A new bract grows immediately after an old one falls, so you can enjoy bright bracts throughout the year.
